Apr 12, 2019 · We weld a lot of A588 (A709-50W and A847) weathering steels using ER80S-Ni1 with 95% Ar / 5% O2 for GMAW and E81T1-Ni1 H4 with 75% Ar / 25% CO2 for FCAW. As Al said, I wouldn't use 75/25 Ar/CO2 for GMAW for spray mode. Just doesn't cut it. Welding The REDCOR weathering steel can be readily welded both to other plates of weathering steel and to plain carbon structural steels. When welding these steels low hydrogen electrodes should be used. Care should also be taken in the preparation of the welding Weathering Steel Welding Guide - Steel Plate SuppliersBlueScope weathering steel grades WR350 and hot rolled coil HW350 have similar welding characteristics to the conventional hot rolled AS/NZS 3678-350 grade. For general structural welding this means that no special welding consumable requirements apply unless a matching surface patina or comparable corrosion resistance is required on the finished Weathering Steel:For unpainted bridges and general Welding Weathering Steel is readily weldable by the submerged-arc, shielded metal-arc, gas metal-arc and flux-cored arc welding process. Proce-dures are similar to those used for other low-alloy structural steels. Low-hydrogen electrodes are specified by the American Welding Society for welding Weathering Steel. Suggestions on minimum
Weathering steel is a high strength low alloy steel that was originally developed by United States Steel in the 1930s to resist corrosion and abrasion in their ore wagons. It was given the trade name Cor-ten, and was first used in construction on the John Deere World Headquarters building in Moline, Illinois, which opened in 1964. Welding Weathering Steels:Understanding the Material and Aug 11, 2014 · Many of the most commercially available low alloy filler metals for welding weathering steel offer 80-plus ksi tensile strength and 60-plus ksi yield strength, but these filler metals are over-matched (higher strength than required) for the base metal when used Welding Weathering-Grade Material with a Nickel It is a good bet they are made from weathering-grade steel. These steels usually are alloyed with small amounts of copper and could have a slightly higher level of phosphorus as well. Historically, these steels were developed first, followed by welding electrodes containing small amounts of copper.
Cor-Match 80-CW 180-W Central Steel ServiceCor-Match The Weathering Steel Wire Electrode. For welding on Corten and weathering steels,Central Steel Service recommends our Cor-Match products, which feature excellent mechanical properties and a close color match to weathering steels.Cor-Match 80-CW and 810-W are low-alloy steel electrodes for Welding A588 Steel - Welders, Welding Wire, Welding Core Ten (A242 & A588) steels are weathering steels commonly used for outdoor structures. These steels have a higher resistance to atmospheric corrosion than typical mild steels. Often, welds on these steels are specified for similar corrosion resistance and color match. On single pass welds, mild steel electrodes are commonly used.
